Henry Cavill Expands His Geek Empire: New Warhammer 40,000 Animated Series in Development
Henry Cavill is producing a new Warhammer 40,000 animated series for Prime Video, spinning off from Secret Level and focusing on the elite Deathwatch.

From Geralt to the Grimdark Future
After parting ways with Netflix's The Witcher, Henry Cavill is not stepping away from the spotlight; instead, he is diving deeper into the worlds he loves. Known for his unwavering passion for gaming and tabletop miniatures, Cavill is now leveraging his influence to bring one of the most complex and vast sci-fi universes to life: Warhammer 40,000.
While fans were already aware of Cavill's involvement in a live-action adaptation, the scope of his ambition has just expanded. Variety has revealed that Amazon MGM Studios, Blur Studios, and Games Workshop are collaborating on a high-budget animated series destined for Prime Video, with Henry Cavill serving as an executive producer.
A Spin-off Born from 'Secret Level'
The genesis of this new project lies in the anthology series Secret Level. The Warhammer 40,000 segment of that series acted as a proof-of-concept, captivating audiences and proving that the grim darkness of the far future translates effectively to the screen. According to reports, the success of this episode served as a "springboard" for a dedicated series.
The creative powerhouse behind the project includes Dave Wilson—the director of the Secret Level episode—who will step up as the showrunner and director. He is joined by John Orloff, a veteran writer known for his work on Band of Brothers, ensuring that the narrative possesses the grit and scale the franchise demands. Tim Miller and Natalie Viscuso will also join Cavill in the executive producer roles.
Focusing on the Deathwatch
While plot details remain closely guarded, the series will center on the Deathwatch. For the uninitiated, the Deathwatch is an elite brotherhood of Space Marines drawn from various chapters, tasked with the most dangerous missions in the galaxy: hunting and eradicating the most lethal alien threats to the Imperium of Man.
This choice of focus allows the show to showcase a diverse array of Space Marine cultures and combat styles, providing a concentrated lens through which to explore the wider, oppressive atmosphere of the 41st Millennium.
Cavill's Dual Role in the Warhammer Universe
Interestingly, this animated venture runs parallel to Cavill's other major project: a live-action Warhammer 40,000 cinematic universe being developed with Mike Flanagan. While Cavill's role in the animated series is primarily as a producer, his influence as a genuine fan of the lore is expected to be a guiding light for the production, ensuring authenticity for the hardcore community.
Dave Wilson expressed his excitement over the project, stating that he has wanted to tell a large-scale story in this universe for twenty years. With the backing of Amazon and the passion of Henry Cavill, the dream of a definitive Warhammer 40K screen adaptation is closer than ever.
