While the base model offers a refined experience, the 'Ultra' branding brings with it a hardware feature many enthusiasts have been clamoring for: a dedicated 3x telephoto zoom lens. To determine if this upgrade is worth the $200 price difference, we took both devices into the field for a rigorous camera comparison.

The Telephoto Difference

For years, the primary complaint about Samsung’s standard foldable line has been the omission of a dedicated telephoto lens, leaving users to rely on digital zoom. The Fold 8 Ultra changes this by introducing a 3x optical zoom sensor, capable of pushing up to 30x digital magnification. Conversely, the base Fold 8 remains limited to standard and ultrawide lenses, with digital zoom topping out at 10x.

Performance Testing: Real-World Scenarios

We tested the devices by photographing subjects at varying zoom levels.
