Samsung’s Executive Vice President, Jay Kim, recently addressed this strategy shift in an exclusive interview with Tom’s Guide. According to Kim, the industry has been too focused on AI as a standalone buzzword. Instead, Samsung is pivoting its focus toward practical, real-world benefits. The goal is to make these tools more intuitive and accessible, moving away from overwhelming users with features they might not need.

Practical Implementations

Instead of shouting about complex generative models, Samsung is highlighting features that save time and reduce friction. A key example is 'Now Nudge.' When a user receives a text message containing appointment details, the Z Fold 8 identifies this information and intelligently suggests a calendar button. This single tap opens the Calendar app in a split-screen view, streamlining what used to be a multi-step process into one effortless interaction.

Another example of this subtle, human-centric approach is 'My FanCam.' This feature allows users to select a subject during video editing, after which the device automatically reframes the footage to track that person—all while maintaining the user’s preferred aspect ratio. It performs a complex editing task in the background without requiring the user to become a video expert.

Automation with Intent

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 also introduces advanced task automation via Gemini Intelligence, now supporting 40 different apps. Whether a user is booking travel, reserving a table, or buying event tickets, the device acts as a helper rather than an autonomous decision-maker. Crucially, the phone will not execute a purchase or final action without explicit user confirmation, ensuring that the consumer maintains full control over their data and financial decisions.

As Samsung continues to refine its software, the strategy remains clear: provide value that feels natural. As Jay Kim noted, 'We just want to make sure that they get what they need at the right time, without sort of thinking too much about whether it's coming from AI.'
