Apple Agrees to $250 Million Settlement Over Delayed AI Features: Everything iPhone Users Need to Know
Apple has agreed to a $250 million class action settlement over delayed AI features. Find out if you are eligible for a payout and how to claim your share.

In a significant development for tech consumers, Apple has agreed to a $250 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit centered on the company’s marketing of artificial intelligence features. The settlement addresses allegations that Apple misled customers by heavily promoting advanced 'Apple Intelligence' capabilities that were not fully available at the time of the launch of certain iPhone models.
Why the Lawsuit Was Filed
When the iPhone 16 lineup and the iPhone 15 Pro series debuted, Apple’s marketing machine centered heavily on the arrival of 'Apple Intelligence.' The company promised users a reimagined Siri, functioning as an advanced intelligent agent, and various other AI-driven enhancements. However, customers who purchased these premium devices soon discovered that the most touted AI features were absent at launch. While iOS 18.1 eventually introduced some tools like Notification Summaries, Writing Tools, and the Photos 'Clean Up' feature, the promised advanced Siri integration remained notably missing, leading to the class action claim of deceptive advertising.
Am I Eligible for a Payout?
The settlement covers approximately 36 million iPhone users. To be eligible for a payment, you must have purchased one of the following devices between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025:
- iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, or 16 Pro Max
- iPhone 16E
- iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max
Experts estimate that individual payouts will range between $25 and $95 per device, depending on the final number of valid claims filed.
How to Claim Your Share
Because this is a legal settlement, there is a formal process involved. Apple is currently coordinating with the settlement administrator, Verita, to identify eligible customers. You do not need to take immediate action. Once the data is processed, eligible customers will be notified via email or postal mail with instructions on how to submit a claim. It is crucial to monitor your email—including your junk and spam folders—for this notification, as there will be a strict 90-day window to file your claim once you are notified.
When Will Payouts Be Distributed?
The settlement received approval in June 2026. Following the current verification phase and a 45-day notice period, officials expect disbursements to begin after September 2026. As with many large-scale class action settlements, the process involves rigorous verification to prevent fraud, so potential claimants should exercise patience as the legal machinery works through the distribution process.
