The Naruto Live-Action Movie Finally Gains Momentum After a Decade of Development
Over a decade after its initial announcement, the live-action Naruto movie by Lionsgate is officially moving forward with a global casting search and director Destin Daniel Cretton.

After more than a decade of anticipation and uncertainty, the live-action adaptation of Masashi Kishimoto's legendary manga, Naruto, is finally moving forward. Following the massive success of other anime-to-live-action projects like Netflix's One Piece, the production house Lionsgate has officially stepped on the gas to bring the Hidden Leaf Village to the big screen.
A Global Casting Call for Team 7
Lionsgate has officially launched a worldwide casting search to find the perfect actors to portray the iconic members of Team 7. The production team is currently prioritizing the roles of Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno. Finding the right talent to embody these beloved characters is considered a critical milestone in the film's pre-production phase.
A Visionary at the Helm
Directing the project is Destin Daniel Cretton, widely recognized for his work on Marvel’s 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings'. Cretton expressed his profound respect for the source material, stating that Kishimoto’s stories have inspired generations and that it is an honor to translate this expansive world into live-action.
To solidify the partnership, Cretton shared a photo with series creator Masashi Kishimoto on social media, signaling a collaborative approach between the filmmaker and the original mangaka.
Masashi Kishimoto's Optimism
Masashi Kishimoto himself has shared his excitement regarding the Hollywood production, describing the current progress as a 'series of miracles.' Having the project in the hands of a director he trusts has clearly given the author newfound confidence in the adaptation. Fans are hopeful that this creative synergy will result in a faithful and high-quality cinematic experience, finally turning a project that languished in development hell for ten years into a reality.
