Disney Revives a Childhood Classic: 'The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen' Officially Announced
Disney announces the return of the iconic franchise with 'The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen'. Find out which original stars are returning and meet the new cast.

A Nostalgic Return to Disney Channel Glory
For an entire generation of viewers, the early 2000s were defined by the vibrant colors, catchy pop anthems, and empowering messages of Disney Channel. Among the most influential of these hits was The Cheetah Girls. Now, more than two decades after the original series first captivated audiences, Disney has officially announced the return of the franchise with a brand-new project titled The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen.
The announcement comes after months of anticipation, fueled by hints from original lead Raven-Symoné. This fifth installment is set to breathe new life into the series, airing first on Disney Channel before streaming globally on Disney+.
Bridging the Gap: Returning Stars and New Faces
The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen aims to balance nostalgia with fresh energy by blending original cast members with a new generation of talent. Fans will be thrilled to see Raven-Symoné returning as the ambitious Galleria and Adrienne Bailon reprising her role as Chanel. Adding to the emotional depth of the homecoming, Lynn Whitfield and Lori Alter will return as the maternal figures, Dorothea and Juanita.
While Sabrina Bryan (Dorinda) will make a brief appearance in a cameo role, the new film will not feature Kiely Williams (Aqua), reportedly due to ongoing conflicts. Instead, the spotlight shifts to a new quartet of talented young women:
- Leah Sava Jeffries (known for Percy Jackson and the Olympians) as Faith, the daughter of Galleria.
- Carmen Sanchez (from Electric Bloom) as Dior, Chanel's sister.
- Kaileen Chang and Sophie Lennon as Ruby and Brooklyn.
The Plot: A Journey of Music and Philanthropy
Moving beyond the streets of New York, the new narrative takes a global turn. The story follows Galleria, Chanel, and the new group—led by Faith—on an inspiring journey to Africa. The plot centers around a volunteer mission in an animal reserve, blending environmental awareness with the series' signature musical flair. As the teenagers navigate their surroundings and engage in charitable work, they will discover their own voices and unite on stage to establish the next generation of the Cheetah Girls.
The Creative Vision and Legacy
To ensure the film maintains the magic of the original, Disney has brought back Debra Martin Chase, the producer of the first three films. Raven-Symoné also steps into a powerhouse role as an Executive Producer. The creative team is rounded out by director Bille Woodruff, a writing team consisting of Kara Holden, Sarah Watson, and Deborah Swisher, and choreography by Kyle Hanagami.
Ayo Davis, President of Disney Kids & Family, emphasized that the revival is about more than just music. "The Cheetah Girls has always been a story of friendship, music, and the anticipation of youth through their own voices," Davis explained. "This spirit deeply impacted a generation of fans and continues to resonate today. This new team will allow us to pass that legacy to a new generation."
When it first premiered in 2003, The Cheetah Girls shattered viewership records and paved the way for future Disney Channel juggernauts like High School Musical and Camp Rock. With Next Gen, Disney is not just reviving a movie; they are reclaiming a cultural touchstone for both old and new fans alike.
